What stories do we need to hear right now?

I’ve been steering away from current literature lately. I’ve grown tired of the pessimistic, anti-human, anti-West, and the comfortable-with-v!olence vibe in stories. These were not the stories I grew up with. These are not inspiring. These are not hopeful. They don’t make me want to become a better version of myself. They make me feel resigned and hopeless. Somehow, as a society, we’ve become okay with the resentment, anger, and the v!olence that these stories fill up our hearts and minds with.

Don’t get me wrong, I recognize that the world is broken, and I love having my worldview challenged. But like most humans, I need to feel like there is the possibility of redemption and hope for a better future. We’re too often shown how broken our world is and told it all needs to be torn down. But few discuss how we can make the world we live in better now in the current system.

No one has ever accused me of being an optimist. But like every other human heart, mine needs hope. So, this blog post exists simply to pose two questions. What stories do we actually need to hear right now? And who will write them?
