Nanowrimo 2023: Outlining

Nanowrimo Day 1—No progress

Day 2—

I spent the evening restructuring acts two and three of my novel. Act one feels solid. In act one, I laid out the characters, central conflict, and the goals of the protagonists (I have two) clearly, and then I threw them out into the world. The inciting incident occurs, and I turn their world upside down.

The biggest problem I am facing is the dreaded soggy middle. I found that there are a lot of scenes where the protagonists are mostly talking and the plot and their arcs are not progressing. Before, I separated the scenes into separate documents and organized them with numbers and brief descriptions.

Now I am facing the daunting task of sorting through them and weeding out the unnecessary ones and writing new scene to fill in the gaps. This is my goal for Nanowrimo: de-sog my middle.

Plan for Day 3—write in new scenes to fill the gaps

Plan for Day 4—Sort through the scenes and get rid of ones that do not advance the plot.
